Exmouth and East
Exmouth and East Network Summary
Thanks to Reece Strawbridge Youth Centre, Axminster Skate Park, Esteem Team CIC, Budleigh Community Youth Project and Space Youth Services for attending.
We discussed:
£600 network funding available for reducing costs, sharing good practices, and supporting staff and trustees
Esteem Team proposed hosting an autism and ADHD training event in Exmouth, offering certificates to attendees at a reduced cost with subsidy from the network.
Work with home education groups in Axminster- many parents feeling unsupported by the wider system and having to pay for services.
The statistics available on home educated young people in Devon-https://www.devon.gov.uk/children-families-education/education/education-statistics/elective-home-education-facts-and-figures/
Funding for skateparks and instructor training- network members to talk to some providers in other areas for advice.
Axminster skate park's success in maintaining a graffiti-free environment through community engagement. This is an ongoing project and has been used as a model in other areas.
Opening of the Places to Go Fund- https://www.devon.gov.uk/fundingnews/fund/places-to-go-things-to-do/
Thanks to Esteem Team CiC we have the offer of some awareness training at £10 per person, with subsidy from the network grant. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfvSqYRwGD0qB9bejMkOdR17CWiPsB5Jf8R9DBahgYUV9kvqg/viewform
We resolved to:
VOYC will send out an expression of interest in the network summary email for anyone wanting to take up Esteem Team’s training offer and book a session if there is sufficient demand.
Connect Axminster Skatepark with another park in Newton Abbot
Offer safeguarding training to any home education groups who want it
After positive feedback from a number of organisations we will discuss safeguarding trends, challenges and questions at all our future network meetings.
Remember to refer home educators needing support or those considering it to the DCC team and be aware of the process:
