South Hams

We represent clubs and organisations within the South Hams district area, working with children and young people in a variety of settings. There are 4 meetings a year, online and face to face. Currently we are working together to arrange a local trip for young people, volunteers and staff where we can all get together, have some fun and look at how we can support each other better.

South Hams Network Summary

Thanks to FAST Kingsbridge and Space Youth Services for attending the meeting.

We discussed:

  • Funding and the Places to Go Fund- https://www.devon.gov.uk/fundingnews/fund/places-to-go-things-to-do/

  • Retention of older young people through volunteer roles and wider opportunities for life skills

  • A young volunteer training program is being proposed by Space that will help older young people remain involved in clubs and activities whilst being rewarded and upskilled.

  • Continued VOYC support for IHASCO Credits which can be accessed by young people and volunteers.

  • FAST are creating a sensory space in a room within their building which will be available to other groups through a low cost hire.

  • They are also working well with other providers in their town

  • Support for harm reduction work by Space provision of drug boxes to appropriately trained volunteers and ability to deliver sessions to groups who need it.

We resolved to:

  • Tom to deliver some wargaming miniatures, equipment and rules  from local contacts to support a developing group in Kingsbridge

  • VOYC and Space Community Team to confirm IHASCO offer and it will go out in the newsletter etc.

After positive feedback from a number of organisations we will discuss safeguarding trends, challenges and questions at all our future network meetings.
